Overview
Overview I had the opportunity to work on a16z’s It’s Time to Build campaign, created around the firm’s announcement of more than $15 billion in new funds. Instead of making a traditional fundraise video, the goal was to create something that felt bigger. A film about ambition, progress, and the people building what comes next. The idea came from Marc Andreessen’s original It’s Time to Build essay from 2020. We took that message and brought it into a more cinematic, modern format that could live across X, Instagram, YouTube, and the rest of a16z’s social channels. Challenges & Approachs The main challenge was making a financial announcement feel emotional. There were a lot of industries, companies, and ideas to represent, but we didn’t want the film to feel like a corporate highlight reel. The focus was instead on one simple idea: progress only happens when people decide to build. We used fast-paced editing, strong archival and cinematic imagery, sound design, and a clear narrative to connect everything from AI and defense to healthcare, infrastructure, and software into one larger story. The Results The campaign quickly became one of a16z’s biggest social releases. The main post on X reached more than 3.1 million views , along with over 15,000 likes and 2,500 reposts . The film was also shared across YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, and a16z’s wider social ecosystem. Marc Andreessen personally reposted and shared the campaign as well, bringing the message full circle from the essay he wrote years earlier to a film representing the next chapter of a16z. “It’s time to build.” — Marc Andreessen Campaign Links: X · YouTube · Instagram · Marc Andreessen
